Grants awarded in 2008-2009

Arizona Center for Integrative Medicine, University of Arizona, Tucson $400,000

At the forefront of efforts to develop new medical residencies that incorporate integrative medicine with conventional training is the Arizona Center for Integrative Medicine. This center has trained more physicians in integrative medicine than any institution in the United States. It is a source of new ideas and new curricular models for all who seek to advance integrative medicine through training. Its more than 500 alumni have taken leadership positions in medical education at medical schools and other centers nationwide. Grant support from the Weil Foundation has helped meet the cost of developing the Integrative Family Medicine program. The Center (formerly the Program in Integrative Medicine) was founded by Dr. Weil, who continues to serve (unpaid) as its director.

University of Arizona Foundation, Tucson $500,000

In 2008 and 2009 the second and third of these payments were made. Interest earned by the endowment fund will be paid each year to the Arizona Center for Integrative Medicine.

How to apply for a grant

The Foundation does not currently accept unsolicited proposals. Instead the Foundation identifies and approaches organizations doing work that advances its present strategy. By this policy, the Foundation hopes to minimize the amount of needless work done by applicants. If a medical center or other institution believes that it is pursuing work exactly aligned with the present strategy of the Foundation and has not been invited to apply, they may contact the Foundation with a brief letter of inquiry at info@weilfoundation.org.
