Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt

With the generous help of the Weil Foundation grant, I have been able to implement the Pediatric Integrative Medicine Residency Program at our Pediatric Residency Program at The Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt. This is a 100-hour interactive online curriculum endorsed by the American Academy of Pediatrics. The curriculum is evidence based and emphasizes the importance of evaluating the whole child, taking into account the lifestyle and wellbeing of the family. The program has been incredibly well received by the 10 participating residents and many report it has changed their patient interactions for the better. In addition, the funds supplied by the Weil Foundation Grant have supported my pursuit of the Integrative Medicine Fellowship at the University of Arizona. This has helped advance Integrative Medicine in Pediatrics at Vanderbilt at large. A clinical fellow in the gastroenterology division, I am frequently consulted by physicians, nurse practitioners, dieticians, and nurses for integrative medicine patient care advice, especially for those with chronic pain and functional disorders. With the continued support from the Weil Foundation, I plan to further develop and promote Integrative Medicine education in Pediatrics at Vanderbilt.
